Share post:

I noticed a significant shift in the market research community when the pandemic hit. There was a massive surge of interested people.

They wanted to know if they could earn money from the comforts of their homes by simply providing their opinions.

You know what? You certainly can, but there’s a catch. You must ensure that you’re working with the right market research company.

That’s why I’ve written a series of reviews to help you choose the best ones to join. Today, I’ll be sharing my honest American Consumer Opinion review.

What Is American Consumer Opinion?

It was in 1986 when American Consumer Opinion’s parent company, Decision Analyst, decided that they wanted to form a new division that would serve as their mail survey panel.

They sent registered respondents invitations to be interviewed via phone calls or to answer surveys through the mail.

It took roughly a decade, but their community grew to 20,000 registered members. The main turning point for American Consumer Opinion came when the internet was born.

Their membership reached up to a million global participants. Today, their community is close to 10 million active members with a total payout of over $35 million.

American Consumer Opinion Review: Is It Legit?

I believe that their company history alone is enough to prove its legitimacy. After all, no questionable company will ever survive that long, nor grow that big.

However, if you need further proof, American Consumer Opinion is more than happy to share its credentials.

First, Decision Analyst is accredited by the Better Business Bureau with a rating of A+. They have minimal complaints, and all were promptly resolved.

I checked TrustPilot and found that they were rated there as well. Also, American Consumer Opinion through Decision Analyst is a member of various renowned research organizations such as:

  • Insights Association
  • American Marketing Association
  • The Advertising Research Foundation
  • Qualitative Research Consultants Association
  • The American Association for Public Opinion Research

I also checked the articles by my fellow bloggers in the community and found more positive than negative reviews.

In the end, the most effective way to test this platform is to join them. This way, I’ll also be able to share the process of how American Consumer Opinion works.

How Does American Consumer Opinion Work?

Here are the steps that will explain the process of American Consumer Opinion from sign-up to payout:

Step 1: Sign-up as a Member

The first thing you should do to be a part of the American Consumer Opinion community (or any other survey site for that matter) is register as a member.

Multiple links on their home page will lead you to their sign-up form. You may click on “Sign Up” on the main menu, “Get Started” on their header banner, or “Join Now” on their footer.

After doing so, another page with their registration form will open. It’s one of the shortest sign-up forms I’ve experienced.

It won’t even require your personal details. It will only ask for your email address, and you may already create your password.

You may also sign-up using your Facebook, Google, or Apple accounts.

The entire registration process should only take just a few minutes. In addition, as I’ve mentioned above, they don’t have any particular target demographic for their respondents.

They don’t even have a preferred geographic location. That’s why a big part of their community is made up of international members.

Step 2: Wait for Your email Invitation

Congratulations! You now have an active member account with American Consumer Opinion.

You now have the chance to earn rewards and extra money by simply answering surveys during your free time.

Unfortunately, due to their expansive community, their email invites can sometimes be few and far between.

According to the company’s FAQs page, you can only expect to get invites several times a year.

That’s why I highly recommend seeking these research opportunities yourself.

You can find surveys within their platform by logging into your member account. They have a constantly updated list of new surveys available.

Step 3: Start Completing Surveys

Respond to your survey invites as soon as you get them. This way, you’ll have a higher chance of bagging the opportunity against other survey takers.

Survey opportunities also come with screener surveys. These were formulated to check how eligible a potential respondent is for a particular project.

This is different from the new member survey you’ll get immediately after signing up.

The good news is American Consumer Opinion covers everything. They pay for both the short surveys and the long ones.

How to Earn Money With American Consumer Opinion

Like many survey sites, American Consumer Opinion lets you earn points you’ll need to accumulate to cash out or enjoy other incentives.

Shorter surveys are worth five to 50 points, while longer surveys are worth double or triple than that depending on the actual length and niche.

One point is equal to a penny. Thus, you need to accumulate 100 points to earn a dollar.

The minimum amount required to cash out your rewards is a thousand points. You’ll then have to withdraw it for cash or donate it to charity.

In the end, the only way to earn money with this agency is to take as many surveys as you can.

Here’s a pro tip: I acknowledge that it can take quite some time to accumulate 1000 points, especially when a survey can pay as low as five points.

Fortunately, there are a couple of tricks to increase the frequency of receiving invites and getting accepted to their surveys.

First, be truthful with your responses. It’s tempting to cheat your answers, thinking they will make you more eligible for a particular gig.

However, most of the time, this can prove to be more detrimental than not. I’m sure that the researchers involved will notice. They always do.

Aside from that, you might accidentally miss the target demographic that they’re looking for.

For instance, a project might require non-user opinions of a particular product, and lying about using it daily can lead you to get rejected.

Second, always keep your profile updated. This will make it easier for American Consumer Opinion to match you with more gigs.

Other Survey Platforms to Try

American Consumer Opinion isn’t the only survey company out there. In fact, here are three other legitimate sources of paid online surveys:

Branded Surveys

If you’re looking for a survey company just as recognized as American Consumer Opinion, I highly recommend checking out Branded Surveys.

It is a market research community partnered with the leading names in the industry, such as Nielsen, J.D. Power and Associates, and Forrester.

Becoming a member of Branded Surveys will give you access to research gigs that will compensate you in the form of gift cards or cash.

What I like best about them is that you won’t have to wait long for survey opportunities to come in. After all, they always have research offers coming in daily.

In addition, they have a quick and simple sign-up form. Like American Consumer Opinion, they’ll only ask for your email and a password.

You can also sign up with a Facebook account.

Valued Opinions

Are you interested in making money from your opinions? Then I’m confident that you’ll enjoy joining Valued Opinions.

Like the previous agencies I’ve featured, it is a company that seeks to connect brands with interested respondents.

What sets them apart is that they’re more than just a paid survey site. Instead, they offer many fun activities like product reviewing and ad reviewing. Learn more on how to become a product reviewer..

I don’t know about you, but I always enjoy getting an advanced sneak peek of upcoming ads.

I also like how their rate is comparably higher than other research agencies. To give you an idea, they pay up to $5 per survey.

Finally, they have a varied selection of rewards available for payout.

Aside from redeeming your accumulated points for cash through your Paypal account, you may get gift cards from the biggest retail brands such as Amazon, Target, and Macy’s.

Just imagine. You’ll be able to shop online for “free” just because you completed a few surveys.

Stan’s Gigs

Finally, since you’re already here, I’d like to invite you to join my online community. Here at Stan’s Gigs, you’ll be able to get exclusive first dibs on the latest research opportunities.

I’m not just talking about paid surveys. You’ll also find other sweet online gigs, such as product sampling, focus groups, and interviews.

Don’t worry. You don’t have to apply to be a member. You won’t even need to fill out a sign-up form.

Just sign up for my newsletter, and you’re all set. I’ll send the offers straight to your email.

Here’s a quick tip: Don’t forget to whitelist me on your email list. This will prevent my messages from going straight to your spam folder.
